The Reserve Bank of India has directed lenders to submit borrower data to credit bureaus on a weekly basis, effective April 1, 2026, in a move aimed at improving credit underwriting and loan monitoring.
The RBI aims to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of credit underwriting and loan monitoring through this directive.
The RBI has proposed measures to facilitate faster data submission and error rectification.
Lenders who fail to adhere to the data submission timelines will be flagged to RBI, with penalties and consequences to be determined.
The directive will be effective from April 1, 2026.
