The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made an update on the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 denomination notes, which were introduced after the 2016 demonetisation.
As per the RBI, the bank has received another Rs 74 crore of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes during November, taking the total to Rs 74 crore.
The RBI announced the withdrawal of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes in May 2023.
The total value of Rs 2,000 banknotes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, the RBI said, stressing that the bills continue to be legal tender.
Disclaimer: The RBI has clarified that the Rs 2,000 denomination notes continue to be legal tender and are being accepted for deposit and exchange.
