On Friday, the students' unions under the banner of All India Forum for Equity staged a demonstration on the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University campus in Ranchi to mark the Akhil Bhartiya Vanchit Adhikar Diwas.
The programme was part of their ongoing campaign to press the government to make a law to curb caste-based discrimination in educational institutions.
Participating Organizations: The demonstration was attended by members of various student unions, including All India Student's Association (AISA), Adivasi Chhatra Sangh, Chhatra RJD, All India Student's Federation, and National Student's Union of India.
The participants marched from the DSPMU main gate and staged a dharna at the university.
According to Dayaram, Executive Chairman of Adivasi Chhatra Sangh, caste-based discrimination has increased by 118% between 2019 and 2024.
He claimed that students are forced to leave education or even take their own lives due to caste prejudice.
Vijay Kumar, AISA Town President, demanded a strict law against individuals involved in caste-based discrimination.
