Reliance Industries’ media arm Jio Studios has strengthened its content ambitions with the acquisition of a majority stake in Oscar-winning production house Sikhya Entertainment, marking a significant consolidation move in India’s fast-evolving entertainment landscape.
Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited (RSBVL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has acquired a 50.1 per cent equity stake in Sikhya Entertainment Private Limited for an aggregate cash consideration of Rs 150 crore. The transaction, completed on February 2, involves a mix of primary and secondary investments and brings Sikhya under the Jio Studios umbrella.
The deal positions Jio Studios to further expand its footprint in premium, creator-driven storytelling, while enabling Sikhya to scale its globally recognised creative slate with the backing of Reliance’s distribution muscle and capital strength. Jio Studios, the media and content arm of RIL, has emerged as a major force in Indian entertainment over the last seven years, backing a mix of commercial blockbusters and critically acclaimed films such as Dhurandhar, Stree, Stree 2 and Laapataa Ladies.
Announcing the partnership, Jyoti Deshpande, President – Jio Studios (Media & Content Business, RIL), said Sikhya’s work reflects “stories that are deeply Indian yet resonate globally." She added that the association aligns with Jio Studios’ long-term belief in partnering with creators who combine cultural authenticity with creative excellence. “By combining their distinctive storytelling legacy with Jio Studios’ scale, distribution and global ambition, we aim to give Indian stories the platform to reach audiences around the world," Deshpande said.
Founded by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, Sikhya Entertainment is one of India’s most internationally recognised independent production houses. It is the only Indian banner to have won both Academy Awards and multiple National Film Awards. Its Oscar wins include Period. End of Sentence. and The Elephant Whisperers, while National Award-winning films include Masaan, Soorarai Pottru and Kathal. Sikhya’s multilingual slate also features titles such as The Lunchbox, Pagglait and Kill.
Monga Kapoor and Jain said the partnership would allow Sikhya to take culturally rooted stories to a wider global audience while continuing to champion emerging talent. “Partnering with Jio Studios allows us to scale our dreams without compromising on the honesty and ambition of our storytelling," they said, describing the collaboration as an opportunity to celebrate a “Rising India, confident in its voice and unapologetic in its stories."
The acquisition underscores Reliance’s broader strategy to build a formidable, globally competitive content ecosystem anchored in Indian stories with international appeal.
