HYBE Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk
Bang has been under investigation for over a year and has been questioned five times as a suspect. During this period, authorities conducted multiple raids, including searches at HYBE’s headquarters and the Korea Exchange, in an effort to gather evidence related to the company’s initial public offering (IPO).
At the heart of the case are allegations that Bang misled existing shareholders in 2019 during the lead-up to HYBE’s stock market debut. Investigators believe he may have suggested that the company’s listing would be delayed, even as internal preparations for the IPO were actively underway. This alleged misinformation could have influenced shareholders to sell their stakes at lower prices. Authorities suspect that Bang may have taken advantage of the situation by acquiring shares at a reduced value, potentially securing profits estimated at around 190 billion KRW (approximately $126 million USD).
