Explained: How Late Shane Warne’s Masterstroke Could Earn His Family 460 Crore After RR’s $1.63 Billion Sale (AP)
Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, were sold to a consortium led by US-based entrepreneur Kal Somani for a whopping $1.63 billion (Rs 15,286 crore), making it the biggest sale in the history of the IPL. But did you know that the sale could also make former captain Shane Warne's family richer by 460 crore? Warne was sold to the Royals at his base price of 400000 US dollars in 2008, and reportedly, earned just over 9 crore as salary during his time with the Royals.
But unverified reports indicate that Shane Warne also made a deal with the first owners of the Royals, Emerging Media Ventures, a consortium led by British Indian businessman Manoj Badale, in 2008, that he would take 0.75 percent equity for every season he would play for the franchise.
Warne played four seasons and earned three percent of the equity in the Royals. Now, since the franchise was sold for a whopping 15,286 crore, he would get around 460 crore as part of his share. Warne unfortunately passed away in 2022, so the amount is likely to go to his family.

Ever since the rumours about Warne's masterplan went viral, the fans on social media have lauded the former captain for his street-smart move. If found true, Warne would be among the highest-earning cricketers in the history of the IPL.
Shane Warne's Record For Rajasthan Royals
Shane Warne was made the captain of the Royals for the inaugural season in 2008, and he led the team to a title win on his first attempt. Warne contributed significantly to the Rajasthan Royals' growth in the early years and was one of the top performers for the side.
