Chinese electronics juggernaut, Xiaomi, stunned the world by debuting in the electric car industry and coming up with a fantastic maiden product at an affordable price point. It has been a commendable journey for Xiaomi in this new venture. After SU7 sedan, Xiaomi entered electric SUV segment with YU7 as well.

Now, Xiaomi is gunning for full-size SUV segment as it has debuted its third car and first offering under its SkyNomad sub-brand. Called SkyNomad N90, this Xiaomi SUV brings a range extender Hybrid powertrain along with comfort oriented features like swivel seats, a large coffee table and even sleeping space.

Xiaomi Skynomad N90 Debuts

While Xiaomi has had two fully electric offerings in its portfolio, SU7 and YU7, the company has now debuted its first ever Hybrid offering in the form of SkyNomad N90. This is a range-extending Series plug-in Hybrid and the 1.5L Turbo Petrol engine does not directly drive the wheels and only generates electricity to charge the onboard battery.

SkyNomad is Xiaomi’s direct subsidiary and has now debuted their maiden product N90 which is a full-size Hybrid SUV. In terms of dimensions, SkyNomad N90 is 5,285 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, 1,825 mm in height and has a 3,080 mm long wheelbase. Kerb weight is 2.8 tonnes and it rides on 21-inch alloy wheels.

Where design is concerned, Xiaomi SkyNomad looks like BYD’s Denza N9 at first glance, which is of similar size and even the name is kinda similar. However, they have different wheelbases and silhouettes. SkyNomad N90 has a boxy appeal and a stately look. There’s a large SkyNomad badging at the front in a plaque, flanked by T-shaped LED headlights and there’s even a bulb above the windshield where ADAS related hardware are housed.

Innovative, Comfort-Oriented Interiors

There are semi flush door handles, almost rectangular LED tail light signature, stately appearance and hidden rear wiper under a large spoiler. On the inside, there is a massive central touchscreen, missing physical buttons, tan finish leather upholstery, multiple sunroofs and more. There is a 5-seater and 7-seater configuration options along with swiveling front seats.

In 5-seater config, third row is absent and the massive gap between first row and second row can be fitted with a large coffee table. 7-seater config brings powered and reclining 2nd row captain chairs with their ottomans. With front row swiveled to face 2nd row occupants, one can convert Xiaomi SkyNomad N9 into a luxury mobile meeting room.

Powering this luxury full-size SUV is a range extending plug-in Hybrid system. The primary powertrain element is a 76 kWh battery pack driving two electric motors rated at a combined 420 bhp and 190 km/h top speed. Pure electric range is 370 km and then the 1.5L Petrol engine kicks in to generate electricity for this 2.8 tonnes SUV with an efficiency rating of 15.9 km/l.
