Uber India & South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh has stepped down from his role after nearly 11 years with the ride-hailing company, Moneycontrol has learnt.

This marks the end of a stint during which he helped shape Uber's strategy in one of its largest international markets. It also comes shortly after Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi's visit last month.

Uber confirmed the developments to Moneycontrol.

“India is one of Uber’s most important markets globally, an important driver of innovation and long-term growth...We thank Prabhjeet for his leadership and lasting contributions in his decade-long journey with Uber. We remain deeply committed to our next phase of growth in India," Uber spokesperson said.

Singh joined Uber in August 2015 from McKinsey & Company, where he served as an Associate Partner. He initially led operations and city expansion before taking over as President of India and South Asia in July 2020. In that role, he oversaw Uber's mobility business across India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

During his tenure, Uber expanded beyond four-wheel taxis to scale offerings such as Auto, Moto and Shuttle while deepening partnerships with public transport agencies and digital public infrastructure initiatives.

The company also sharpened its focus on electric mobility, affordability and multimodal transportation as competition from local rivals intensified.

Uber has not yet announced Singh's successor.

Singh played a key role in adapting Uber's global operating model for India, launching services tailored to local commuters and helping the company strengthen its presence across multiple cities.

Under his leadership, Uber also pursued strategic collaborations, including recent integrations with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), as it sought to expand beyond ride hailing.

His departure comes as Uber continues to invest in India, which the company has repeatedly described as one of its most strategic growth markets globally.

Prabhjeet Singh's exit comes weeks after global CEO Dara Khosrowshahi visited India.

In May 2026, Khosrowshahi was on a five-day visit to India, during which he met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and discussed the company’s future investment roadmap for the country.

At that time, he said that the discussions focused on Uber’s long-term plans for India and the role digital mobility platforms can play in the country’s economic growth ambitions.

Uber is also setting up its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, ride-hailing firm's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a post on X on May 13.

Khosrowshahi said he met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad to discuss expanding Uber’s existing partnership with the conglomerate.

Uber India's growth in FY25

Reports based on Uber India’s FY25 filings accessed through Tofler showed the company’s total sales rose marginally to Rs 3,849 crore ($405 million) in FY25 from Rs 3,762 crore ($395 million) in FY24, while consolidated losses widened sharply to Rs 1,512 crore ($160 million) from Rs 89 crore ($9 million) a year earlier amid higher driver incentives and discounting.

Rising Competition

Singh's departure also comes at a time when competition in India's ride-hailing market is intensifying.

Uber is increasingly facing pressure from Rapido, which has rapidly expanded its footprint across bike taxis and smaller cities.

During his visit to India last month, Khosrowshahi publicly highlighted Uber Moto by taking a bike taxi ride, underscoring the company's growing focus on the segment as it seeks to counter Rapido's momentum.

The competitive landscape has become even more challenging as Rapido recently closed a roughly $780 million funding round backed by investors including Prosus, WestBridge Capital and Accel, providing fresh capital to accelerate its expansion.

At the same time, bike taxi operators, including Uber, Rapido and Ola, continue to face regulatory scrutiny, with states such as Maharashtra taking action against unauthorised bike taxi operations.
