China’s automotive juggernaut, Chery Automobile, has been making quite a few headlines in India. The company has partnered with JSW Motors to offer an NEV lineup from within its many subsidiaries. These SUVs will be launched under the JSW Motors badge and outside of JSW MG Motor India lineup.
Quite a few Chery vehicles have been patented in India, sparking potential launch under JSW brand. iCar / iCaur V23, Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5 and Jaecoo J7 have been spied in India and Chery has patented quite of few of its SUVs here too. The latest ones to join Chery’s patents in India are the upcoming Exeed RX and Lepas L4 EV.
Two New Chery Cars Patented
Chery Automobile has just patented two more SUVs in India, joining a long list of already filed patents. These include T1TP SUV, T1TP Pickup, Exlantix E08, Tiggo 7L, QQ3, Tiggo 8, Jetour T2, Lepas L6 and many more. The latest patents to be filed in India are of Lepas L4 and then an upcoming version of Exeed RX.
Starting with Lepas L4, the model patented in India is the newest version of this SUV and is not even listed on Lepas International website. This version of Lepas L4 was first unveiled at 2026 Beijing Motor Show and is the most affordable offering from Lepas. It is pitted as a global model and the styling is aimed to appeal to Europeans.
BMW iX1 and Volvo EX30 are the obvious rivals for Lepas L4 EV. It measures 4,415 mm in length, 1,817 mm in width, 1,630 mm in height and has a 2,700 mm long wheelbase. There is a 67 kWh battery pack powering Lepas L4 EV, promising a range of about 450 km on one charge. A single 150 kW (202 bhp) motor drives front wheels.
There is a PHEV version of this SUV too with 90 km pure electric range, 205 kW (250 bhp) and 350 Nm. Contemporary European styling, 9.9-inch infotainment screen, 8-inch instrument cluster, 360-degree cameras, semi-leather seats, premium sound system, ventilated seats, ADAS, adaptive cruise control and other features are present.
Upcoming Exeed RX
Last month, the upcoming Chery Exeed RX coupe SUV was decommissioned, revealing the more premium design language. This version is yet to be listed on Chery’s or Exeed’s website too. It gets a cascading grille, connected LED DRLs, C-shaped elements on bumper and LED headlights are housed in it.
Depending on the market, this upcoming SUV will be sold as Chery Yaoguang C-DM, Exeed RX, Omoda C9 or Esteo RX in Russia. It is a PHEV with up to 1,400 km of combined range. Depending on the variant, Exeed RX will get a 19.5 kWh or 34.5 kWh battery pack with up to 210 km pure electric range. There’s 2WD and AWD configurations to choose from and the luxurious cabin has a 24.6-inch dual curved screen (two 12.3-inch screens).
