Mixed signals for the equity markets this morning. The GIFT Nifty has been trading 20 points higher, or 0.09%, above 23,200 in early trade, signalling a cautious start for Indian equities. However, mixed cues from Asia , elevated US Treasury yields and crude oil prices will remain in focus, along with global market cues and institutional flows.
In the last trading session, the Sensex fell 777.94 points, or 1.04%, to close at 74,003.82, while the Nifty declined 279.50 points, or 1.19%, to settle at 23,118.60.
Key global and domestic cues for September 16, 2026
Asian markets are offering mixed signals in early Wednesday trade. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.17%, while the Topix gained 0.55%. South Korea’s Kospi remained largely flat, whereas the Kosdaq fell 0.69%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.24%.
Oil prices declined slightly in early trade, with Brent crude falling 0.40% to $108.32 a barrel, while US crude slipped 0.72% to $105.11 a barrel.
US Treasury yields remained elevated, with the 10-year yield holding slightly above 5%, while the 30-year yield stood at 5.369%, amid concerns over higher inflation.
US markets ended lower in the previous session, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.63% to 52,093.11. The S&P 500 declined 0.45% to 7,585.73, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.78% to 25,981.57.
US stock futures pointed to a mildly positive opening, with Dow futures rising 56 points, or 0.1%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures also gained 0.1% each.
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading at 99.69. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies.
The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The Indian rupee ended Tuesday’s session on September 15 at Rs 95.96 against the US dollar.
In the latest trading session, COMEX gold fell 0.27% to 4,320.
The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 1,53,160 per 10 grams. The 24 kt gold rate today in Delhi is Rs 1,53,310 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today in India is Rs 1,14,870. The 24-carat gold rate in Dubai today is Rs 1,51,070.
In the latest trading session, COMEX silver down 1.28% to 64.14.
Silver prices in India stood at Rs 249.90 per gram, while the price was Rs 2,49,900 per kilogram.
FIIs remained sellers on September 15, offloading Rs 2,977.86 crore, while DIIs bought equities worth Rs 2,686.05 crore as rising crude prices and bond yields weighed on Indian markets.
In the last trading session, Information Technology stocks rose 1.21%, while Artificial Intelligence (AI) stocks gained 0.96%. Digital stocks also moved higher, advancing 0.52%.
In the last trading session, HCL Group stocks rose 3.97%, while Emami Group stocks gained 2.46%. Patodia Group stocks also moved higher, rising 1.89%. On the other hand, GMR Group stocks declined 5.12%, Ruchi Group stocks fell 5.85%, and Essar Group stocks dropped 6.83%.
