Used 7-Seaters: Toyota Innova

Given Toyota’s brand value, it would be quite difficult to get the Crysta at this price point. You will have to settle for the 2016 model instead. It may lack modern features, but it offers practicality like no other, which is why older-generation Innovas have been and remain a common choice among taxi fleets.

This particular model is listed at Rs. 8.45 lakh, and you get Toyota’s mighty 2.5-litre diesel for the price. This engine produces great low-end torque and is an absolute delight to maintain. While the spares may be a tad bit expensive, the chances of you needing to replace parts are quite low. This Innova could last you an eternity. Furthermore, as a BS4 vehicle, you don’t need to worry about DPF issues.

Mahindra XUV500

You can get this feature-rich 2019 XUV500 W9 for Rs 9.75 lakh. After this model, the XUV500 name was killed, and the 7-seater sported a new XUV700 badge (later changed to XUV 7XO). Nonetheless, it is loaded with a fair number of features, including an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control, a reverse parking camera, and a touchscreen with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. It is important to note that the XUV500 was unpopular for its 3rd-row seats and boot space. You can carry 7 people on occasion, but it serves best as a 5-seater.

Note

ly, it gets Mahindra’s reliable 2.2-litre diesel engine, mated to a torque converter. The engine packs a solid punch and is quite reliable. It may not be as fuel-efficient as the Triber, but you are compensated fairly with performance.

Used 7-Seaters: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

The Pajero Sport carried the Mitsubishi lineup during the latter half of its life in India. And thanks to Mitsubishi leaving the country, the resale value is in the bin. We have found a 2015 Pajero Sport being listed at Rs 9.99 lakh. You get great road presence, a capable 2.5-litre diesel engine and decent interior space for this cost.

It gets the bare necessities, like an infotainment screen, automatic climate control, and a reverse camera. Being a Japanese SUV, the Pajero Sport is relatively reliable, and the engine is unlikely to go kaput. However, you would struggle big time trying to source parts. Many Mitsubishi owners have struggled to source parts for their Cedias, Lancers, and similar models.

Mahindra Scorpio

We have stumbled across this 2016 Scorpio S10 priced at Rs. 9.51 lakh. It is one of the most reliable cars out there as it gets the mighty 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine mated to a manual gearbox.

The Scorpio has always been a pretty bare-bones SUV, but you still get basic features like automatic climate control, alloy wheels, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. The owner has also installed an aftermarket infotainment screen. It lacks the sophistication of modern SUVs, but it doesn’t intend to be sophisticated. It is meant for those who want a reliable means of transport that can go anywhere on the planet without cracking a sweat.

Used 7-Seaters: Mahindra Marazzo

Many have forgotten that Mahindra still has an MPV in its lineup – the Marazzo. It never really caught on with the Indian public despite being a decent product. You can take advantage of its poor resale value, as this 2020 top model is listed at Rs. 8.25 lakh.

It gets the bare necessities like alloy wheels, a touchscreen with Bluetooth compatibility, automatic climate control, and a reverse parking camera. But the highlight of the Marazzo is the practicality. At 4.6 m long (longer than the Ertiga and Carens), the interior is quite roomy, and you also get ample boot space. Moreover, you get a 1.5-litre diesel engine, so the car has enough power to carry 7-8 people.
