Shares of Prism Johnson jumped as much as 10.5% on Wednesday morning, August 19, after the company was declared the successful bidder for an additional 1.28 lakh tonne per annum of coal from Eastern Coalfields and South Eastern Coalfields , subsidiaries of Coal India, in a recently-concluded auction conducted by MSTC for the cement industry.
In an exchange filing on Tuesday, the company said that ECL will supply 24,000 metric tonne of coal per annum, while SECL will supply 1.04 lakh metric tonne per annum to Prism Johnson. Following the successful bid, the company's total coal linkage has increased to 2.79 lakh TPA, covering approximately half of its Cement Division's annual fuel requirement.

This is in addition to its existing coal linkage of 1.51 lakh TPA, of which 1.11 lakh TPA is scheduled to expire in February 2027. The Fuel Supply Agreements are to be executed within 90 days from the issuance of the Letters of Intent dated August 17, 2026, according to the company's exchange filing.
The total value of the contracts with the Coal India subsidiaries is approximately ₹70.49 crore per annum. The company said the contracts were awarded by domestic entities and that neither the promoter group nor group companies have any interest in the entities awarding the contracts.

The contracts also do not fall under related-party transactions. Q1 resultsPrism Johnson reported a consolidated net profit of ₹112 crore in Q1FY27, compared with a loss of ₹5.56 crore a year earlier, helped by a ₹33 crore exceptional gain. Revenue from operations rose 2.6% year-on-year to ₹1,835.2 crore, while Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation increased 26.6% to ₹220.5 crore.
EBITDA margin expanded to 12% from 9.73% in the year-ago quarter. The company said profitability was supported by robust execution in its H&R Johnson tiles business and Prism RMC, while the cement business remained resilient despite a softer market. Discipline on costs, operational efficiencies and calibrated pricing actions helped offset elevated fuel costs and raw material inflation.

Following the order win announcement during the after-market hours on Tuesday, shares of the company surged up to 10.5% on Wednesday to an intraday high of ₹116.88 and were trading at ₹112.40 as of 10.36 am, up 7.06%. The stock has declined about 19% since January this year and more than 24% over the last 12 months.
