Hyundai says production has returned to normal after disruption caused by fire at supplier facility, with lost volumes expected to be recovered during the current quarter
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported total sales of 51,335 units in June 2026, comprising 39,635 domestic sales and 11,700 exports. While domestic sales declined by 9.97% YoY, the company attributed the drop primarily to a temporary production disruption caused by a fire at one of its supplier’s manufacturing facilities.
Hyundai’s domestic dispatches also declined on a month-on-month basis. Compared to 47,837 units sold in May 2026, June sales were lower by 8,202 units, translating to a 17.15% decline.
Production Loss Due To Supplier Fire
Commenting on the sales performance, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said the company lost approximately 13,900 units of production during June after a fire at one of its supplier’s manufacturing facilities disrupted the supply of components.
Hyundai stated that it quickly arranged parts from alternate sourcing locations and restored normal production across all its manufacturing facilities from 22nd June 2026. The company expects to recover the lost production volumes during Q2 FY2026-27. The production issue was disclosed earlier through stock exchange filings in June.
Q2 Performance Remains Positive
Despite a weak June, Hyundai’s quarterly performance remained relatively stable due to stronger sales in April and May. Domestic sales for the quarter improved by 5.38%, helped by steady demand for models such as Creta, Venue, Exter, Verna, Alcazar and the Creta Electric. However, exports witnessed a sharp decline of nearly 20%, resulting in total quarterly sales slipping marginally by 1.28%.
Production Back On Track
With manufacturing operations now fully normalized, Hyundai expects production to stabilize over the coming months. The company has indicated that the temporary production loss in June will be compensated during the current quarter, which should help improve dispatch volumes going forward.
