Choice International announced that its board of directors approved a 1:1 bonus issue, marking the company's first such corporate action in two years.

This means every shareholder will receive one bonus share for every share held in the company as of the record date. The company will announce the record date for determining shareholders’ eligibility to receive the bonus shares later.

A bonus issue involves a company distributing free shares to existing shareholders from its reserves. It is often viewed as a sign of financial strength and confidence in future growth prospects. While a bonus issue increases the total number of outstanding shares, it does not change the company’s market capitalisation. However, it can improve liquidity and make the stock more affordable, allowing more investors to add it to their portfolios.

Choice International said its board also approved a proposal to increase the company’s authorised share capital from Rs 225 crore, divided into 22.5 crore shares with a face value of Rs 10 each, to Rs 447.80 crore, divided into 44.78 crore shares with the same face value. The proposal is subject to shareholders’ approval.

The bonus shares are expected to be credited to shareholders’ accounts within two months.
