Top Reasons Why India is Emerging as an IPO Hub of the World?

India is solidifying its position as the global leader in the Initial Public Offering (IPO) market. Driven by robust economic growth, investor-friendly policies and the booming startup ecosystem, over the past few years, the Indian IPO landscape has experienced unprecedented momentum, making India an attractive destination for domestic and FPI investors. With it, from the tech-driven unicorns to the established industrial giants, a diverse range of companies are working on leveraging public markets to raise capital and fuel economic development's new wave.

Considering the above, let's explore some top reasons why India is continuing to emerge as the global hub for IPO and how platforms like India IPO are helping to connect businesses with investors offering infinite funds within this thriving market.

Recent Trends in the Indian IPO Market

The IPO market in India is witnessing a record-breaking surge. It is fueled by the increased interest of investors and the bullish stock market. As per the latest report by EY, India has outperformed 2023's IPO trends, with 234 public offerings. This is a 56% increase from FY2022. Furthermore, 2023's IPO proceeds totalled approximately ₹66851.97 Crores, and it reflected a stronger investor appetite, despite all the ongoing global economic challenges.

In 2023's third quarter, 21 IPO alone raised ₹14997.21 Crores, showcasing a remarkable 376% growth in comparison to 2022's same quarter. Some companies, like SAMHI Hotels Ltd., Concord Biotech Ltd., and RR Kabel Ltd., also made some significant contributions to this momentum. Moreover, September 2023 became the busiest month for IPOs in the past 14 years, thereby marking a major milestone for the IPO market of India.

Moving ahead to retail investor participation, it has been pivotal, with the National Stock Exchange surpassing 20 crore accounts in the year 2023. This growing investor base is now driving the demand for diverse and new investment opportunities, making IPO a preferred choice.

Getting to 2024, the Indian IPO market continued to see increased confidence and demand. Not to mention, the last quarter Q3 of 2024, saw a 29% increase in IPOs— 27 IPOs were registered in comparison to PY in the same period. The IPOs raised ₹36,027 crore, showcasing 142% growth as compared to 2023 Q3.

This Quarter further showed substantial momentum, with a 115% increase in total funds raised and an approximately 108% rise in the deals in comparison to the preceding quarter. As part of this trend, renewable energy, financial services, and tech firms led the way, showing the robust pipeline of businesses seeking public funding.

Why FPI Investors Are Interested in Indian IPOs?

FPI investors are now drawn to the Indian IPO market because of the country's dynamic growth story and the existing favourable market conditions. It was recently that India surpassed China within the MSCI All-Country World Index, with approximately a 2.33% share of the free-float market cap. It highlights the attractiveness of the country as the leading investable market.
